Plasma TV: Purchasing From Retailers

Choices

There are many options as to the sources for purchasing plasma TV. But the choices are most commonly made between either a traditional retail store or an online dealer.

Advantages Of Retail Shop

Purchasing from a local store has its own advantages. These stores in most cases are authorized and offer the benefit of warranty from the manufacturers. Some retail shops have soft customer-friendly policies whereby purchased article can be returned but with payment of some re-stocking charges. A retail shop exhibits the items in full view of the customer who can make an informed and considered choice after viewing a demonstration of the plasma TV going to be purchased. The display by a retailer also gives the whole thing an aesthetic outlook which makes choice easier for a customer.

Disadvantages

The retailers maintain a price close to the maximum retail price that makes the price uncompetitive. Sales Tax further compounds the problem for the shopper. Often instead of neutral selling, the retailer takes interest in push-selling a particular brand because of getting certain advantages from that particular manufacturer like better commissions than others or maximum products to stock. In this situation the consumer is more likely to be misled as the focus of the seller is not the merit of the product or the customer’s benefit but his own business interest. Another disadvantage is the usually poor knowledge about the product among the staff employed in retail shop who lacking proper information on the product might mislead or misinform the consumer. Of course such knowledge gap is not there in the staff employed at large home theatre stores.

Types Of Retailers

There are basically two kinds of retailers- “big box” and “boutiques”. Big box shops usually store low to middle grade plasma TV but offering competitive prices because of the stress on sales volume. The product knowledge of staff is doubtful. The boutiques tend to sell costly products but their staff is usually well-informed.
